About TSDSI
TSDSI (Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India) is an autonomous, membership-based standards development organization established on January 7, 2014. Created as per the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 directive, TSDSI is jointly supported by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
TSDSI is registered as a not-for-profit Society under the Indian Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. It serves as India’s primary telecommunications standards development organization and represents India in international standards bodies.
Core Objectives
- Develop, promote, and standardize India-specific Telecom/ICT requirements and solutions
- Present Indian requirements to international standards organizations (3GPP, ITU, oneM2M, etc.)
- Create and safeguard related IPRs; foster standards-based manufacturing in India
- Provide guidance and leadership to developing nations on telecom standardization

- 5Gi Standard: India’s unique contribution to 5G — a lower-layer enhancement improving uplink performance for rural coverage, adopted in 3GPP Release 16
- 1,657+ Standards Transposed: 3GPP Releases 13–18 transposed as TSDSI standards
- oneM2M Partner: Active Partner Type 1 member contributing to global IoT standards
- 88+ Members: Spanning telecom operators, OEMs, semiconductor companies, academia, and government
- 6 Governing Councils: Democratic governance with elections every two years

International Engagement
TSDSI represents India at 3GPP, ITU-T, ITU-R, oneM2M, ETSI, and the African Telecommunications Union. Indian delegates, supported by TSDSI, have contributed to shaping global 5G, IoT, and next-generation network standards.
